No matter what reasoning any one person can come up with about helping our homeless in need .. We know that giving DOES make a
difference. The numbers of our elderly and homeless families and their children on the streets in every city in California is growing.
The homeless don't go grocery shopping every Friday for their families meals. Their kids don't spend their time downloading top hits to
their IPod's or shopping for the latest greatest game for their PSP or X-Box. These families spend their time searching for shelter and
seeking gifts of food and clothing. Not all homeless are homeless by choice, they are homeless by circumstance. Loss of jobs,
exhausted unemployment benefits, foreclosure, natural disasters that leave them destitute. Financial conditions that plummet a family
into homelessness and hopelessness.
But NOW Mothers alone on the streets with their children
represent a large number of homeless on the street.
Mothers with children who in some circumstances escape brutal and abusive environments only to find that their courage to escape
one extreme ends them into another. The Union Rescue Mission Downtown provides many services to these women and their children
through the services provided at HOPE GARDENS FAMILY CENTER. But as you can imagine the cost to continue this program is
